FBI Director Kash Patel, speaking at a White House roundtable on Wednesday, announced that the FBI, in collaboration with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the Justice Department, and the Department of Homeland Security, will work to identify and disrupt networks funding left-wing violence across the United States.
“We are tracing financial trails to uncover these networks. Our focus is on tracking the funds, donors, and organizations involved,” Patel stated, emphasizing a coordinated effort to map out financial activities linked to these groups.
He added, “We aim to expose and address these operations thoroughly, pursuing investigations in cities nationwide.”
President Donald Trump signed an executive order last month directing federal agencies to investigate and counter domestic terrorism and organized political violence. The order targets groups described as engaging in disruptive activities, with a focus on their financial supporters.
“These groups are funded by individuals and organizations, and we’re working to identify them,” Trump said, without providing specific names.
The executive order, signed in the presence of Cabinet members and senior officials, instructs the FBI’s National Joint Terrorism Task Force to pursue investigations and prosecutions related to political violence and intimidation.
The order follows a reported attack on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas, and a noted rise in assaults against ICE officers over the past year, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Vice President J.D. Vance, in a Thursday Fox News interview, suggested that heated political rhetoric has contributed to rising tensions, particularly around border security issues.
Last month, a senior Justice Department official instructed several U.S. attorneys’ offices to develop plans for potential investigations into the Open Society Foundations, a nonprofit network funded by George Soros. The directive, reported by The New York Times, mentions possible charges such as racketeering, arson, wire fraud, and material support for terrorism.
The initiative aligns with President Trump’s calls for probes into Soros and related organizations, following incidents including the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah.
