Authorities announced Tuesday that Bill Stevenson, the former husband of Dr. Jill Biden, has been charged with murdering his current wife, Linda Stevenson. Her body was discovered unresponsive inside their Delaware home in December.
New Castle County police arrested the 77-year-old on Monday following a weeks-long investigation. According to police, the case was presented to a grand jury, which returned a first-degree murder charge.
Stevenson was taken to the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $500,000 bail.
Officers were called to the couple’s Oak Hill residence on December 28 around 11 p.m. to investigate a reported domestic disturbance. Linda Stevenson was found on the living room floor and was pronounced dead at the scene after life-saving efforts failed. A 911 dispatch recording referenced a possible “cardiac arrest.”
Her body was sent to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
Bill Stevenson was married to Jill Biden from 1970 to 1975. She later married Joe Biden in 1977. In past statements, Stevenson has claimed their marriage ended after he alleged Jill Biden had an affair with Joe Biden.
